Formulas
Lesson Outline
I checked Natalie's homework and found that she was still having a lot of trouble but had improved some. I then went over several formulas with Natalie including the formulas relating distance, rate, and time. I then selected problems which gave a few items of data and required her to solve the given formulas. I then left the room to give Natalie the time for independent work. After working in the teachers' work room for about 15 minutes, I was requested to return by Natalie because she said she didn't know how to do any of the problems. I came back and worked with her until the end of the session and told her to try to do the rest of the problems on her own for homework.

Budgets and Credit/Stocks and Bonds
Lesson Outline
We reviewed Natalie's homework ,an assessment quiz ,which focused on budgets and credit . While she had difficulty with a number of the questions, when we went over her answers together she was quick to spot the correct answer and to recognize the problem with her response. She then completed the study guide questions on stocks and bonds after which we revised some of her answers . In connection therewith, I reviewed the difference between stocks and bonds as well as the risk associated with each investment. Natalie has requested some additional practice in essay writing and ,as such, for homework I assigned reading two pages on fiscal policy as well as the portion of the text on income inequality as these will serve as a basis for her writing an essay on whether changes in federal fiscal policy can effectively address the issue of income inequality.

British Literature
Lesson Outline
Natalie began a "project" today for British Literature. Tara and I took a laptop and possible materials for Natalie to use in this creation. It will be a time-line of British Literature, including writers, some of their works, and the literary periods. It will be fairly detailed. The source we provided is the British Library where the progression of writing is clearly categorized in boxes containing the author's chronologically (as Natalie learned them) and detailed information from which she can select. The entire period was spent in preparation and information gathering. Next Thursday, Natalie should be ready for a literary terms test.

Review of one-step equations and simplifying expressions
Lesson Outline
I graded Natalie's homework and found that most of it was wrong because she tried to oversimplify her answers by combining terms that had variables with pure constants. She requested more independent work and I gave her an assignment to work on while I worked in the teachers' room. When I came back, she was finished so I began to check her work. I found that there was a lot of correcting to do so I told her that there would not be an assignment for tonight.

Stocks/Bonds /Forms of Business ownership
Lesson Outline
On the whiteboard I outlined the difference between dividend stocks, growth stocks, and value stocks. With respect to large public companies like Apple and Amazon, I mentioned that the number of outstanding shares are in hundreds of millions. As picking stocks requires significant time and knowledge ,I then talked about mutual funds and diversification as a means to ,in theory, limit loss. We reviewed that a shareholder can make money on a stock ,even without selling, if the stock pays dividends. Natalie continued to work on the study guide which focuses on this area and the role of stock indexes. We looked on line at some stock indexes ,like the Dow and the S &P 500, and noted fluctuations. Last, I distributed supplementary material on income statements and showed Natalie how to read a simple income statement of a business. I discussed depreciation , earnings , and net income. For homework, I assigned completing the questions on the study guide on bonds and the income statement and answering 7 chapter assessment questions on page 512.

Composition and Heart of Darkness
Lesson Outline
Natalie submitted her second rough draft, a great revision with many improvements. I will have her do one more revision before the final essay grade. The essay is a rebuttal to Adlai Stevenson's veto of the "Cat Bill." There are solid arguments with relevant sources. Natalie also has flashcards for literary terms to study for next Thursday -- test. We will continue to work on how to put in citations and do Works Cited in MLA format. Natalie is continuing to read The Heart of Darkness and is completing the activities.
