Today we went over Maggie's practice SAT essay. We discussed ways to bring in the historical context and the audience's reaction to the text. Next, Maggie practiced her strategies in the reading section and went over how to ascertain the correct answer through elimination.
Today we reviewed the Writing and Language strategies and common mistakes. Maggie practiced building endurance in this section. Next, we moved on to review strategies in the reading sections. Maggie is showing progress in both reading and the Writing and Language sections. I asked her to write another practice SAT essay before next week.
Today we went over Maggie's SAT essay. We discussed ways to improve her writing by including more excerpts from the speech and relating the analysis back to the audience's perception within the historical context of the speech. Next, Maggie did a few drills in reading and the English sections. We went over questions she had difficulty with and covered strategies to help her in the future.
Today we went over the way a student should approach the SAT essay. We covered stylistic details and rhetorical appeals to look for and then discussed how to organize, time and execute the essay. Next, we read a sample prompt, analyzed together, and then read a few sample essay responses to that prompt. For homework, Maggie should complete a practice essay.
