Today we went over Haley's practice drills that she did for homework. We discussed how to eliminate properly and focused on understanding where Haley went wrong in her comprehension for her incorrect answers. Her practice test would have earned her a 630 on the verbal side of the SAT, so I sent her an article to read for homework on how to go from a 600 to an 800.
Today we went over some of the practice questions that Maggie had done on her own. We discussed different ways to eliminate the incorrect answers and ways the test makers try to throw off the test takers. Next, we discussed more tips for how to tackle the writing and language section. Then Maggie did some practice questions and we discussed the answers.
Today I went over the layout of the SAT reading section. I presented the different types of questions that are usually asked and strategies to tackle the different kinds. Next we previewed a reading passage and discussed how to apply elimination technique to each question type. Maggie then practiced with a few reading drills. Next, we started going over notes for the Writing and Language section. Lastly, we covered comma usage for essential and nonessential clauses and will pick up from there next time.
We started with some practice problems on some basic topics (including topics on lines), so that I can get an idea of where she stands. We went through some SAT tricks with these topics and what to look for.
