Continued working on in-text citations today. We discussed APA formatting for essays, reviewing a sample paper from Purdue owl and checking off as he completed each necessary formatting detail (spacing, font size/style, title page, page numbering, etc.).
*Ayden fell asleep about half way through chapter six and I couldn't get him up myself. At last, he woke up at 11:10. :) He's making it up by reading the rest of chapter 6 and 7 independently outside of class time.
We listened to TKAM Chapter 2 and half of 3 on Audible, following along with the text using a virtual copy I located. Then, we had a brief discussion followed by Ayden independently answering 2 analysis questions.
We listened to Sissy Spacek read TKAM on Audible. Ayden has a copy of the book here at school, but I was able to find chapter 1 online for him to follow along with for the day. Following chapter 1, Ayden selected one question prompt to respond to for chapter analysis.

Lesson Comments
Ayden struggled to retrieve any details at all from our reading of chapter 1; including but not limited to the names of our main characters, or who Boo Radley is thought to be.
We read the synopses of several all-time classic novels, Ayden did a bit of his own browsing for selections, and then we discussed the pro's/con's of reading each of them versus the other. Ultimately, Ayden decided that he would like to read To Kill A Mockingbird.
For the remainder of the year, Ayden will engage in higher level analysis of a classic literary novel. The discussion will be simulated to mimic a college-level discussion and comprehension questions will go a step further than retrieval of information. Instead, they will require Ayden to synthesize and evaluate each chapter - a level of response which will be the baseline at the college level.
