Maslow's Theory and higher order thinking skills
Lesson Outline
Will reviewed Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” in today’s session. Then, we discussed text-dependent questions from the article. Will had to draw conclusions from the information in the text and make inferences. This was challenging work for Will, and he found it difficult to go “beyond” the text in making inferences. This is a higher order thinking skill that I will infuse into our work together. Next, we discussed his answers to Chapter Two and reviewed the events of Chapter Three. For homework, he will answer comprehension questions for Chapter Three and read Chapters 4 and 5.

Lesson Outline
Will reviewed his Chapter One comprehension questions for "Lord of the Flies" in class today. After our discussion about his answers, he summarized the key events in Chapter Two. Next, he read an article on Maslow’s theory of the “Hierarchy of Needs”. He underlined key details describing the hierarchy levels. For homework, Will is filling in a pyramid template of the “Hierarchy of needs”. On Wednesday, we will discuss how this hierarchy influenced the characters in our novel. In addition to the pyramid template, he should answer the comprehension questions for the next chapter and read Chapter Three of our novel. Will has been working really hard in class!
