Bella was online today. She reviewed the SAT vocabulary previously studied. I introduced a new set of 20 words. She practiced the words, used them in sentences and created synonyms and antonyms. I then introduced a new writing prompt. We discussed the topic, her position on the topic, and credible evidence she could present to support her position.
Jaydn began the session by reviewing and applying the SAT words being studied. She then was given a writing prompt where she discussed the topic and then responded in writing by stating the prompt and clearly writing her support of the statement. She began discussing viable support for the statement and valid examples for support where she can elaborate on the topic. Jaydn then read, analyzed, and discussed the next chapter of Where the Crawdads Sing.
Cabo read, analyzed, and discussed chapters 7-9 of Graham Moore's The Last Days of Night. He then edited his argument essay for grammatical, punctuation, and rhetorical fallacy mistakes. He then continued by elaborating with facts for support of his position. Cabo then reviewed SAT vocabulary being studied and created synonyms and antonyms for the words.
Class began 30 minutes late as Bella did not arrive until 11:30.
I introduced a new unit of SAT words to Bella. She practiced the words by applying them to prepared sentences and creating synonyms and antonyms for the words. I then had Bella begin her written response to the Andy Warhol statement about each person experiencing forty minutes of fame. She responded with a clear, concise, and direct thesis clearly indicating her position on the statement. She then continued with support for her position and began her elaboration with facts for support. She will complete this writing assignment tomorrow and edit for mistakes.
Jaydn continued reading, analyzing, and discussing where the Crawdads Sing. We discussed the setting effect on the character development. I then had Jaydn review SAT vocabulary and take a quiz on the words.
Cabo read the next two chapters of The Last Days of Night then I presented him with a writing prompt to respond to in essay form. The prompt said that artist Andy Warhol had stated forty years ago that every person has fifteen minutes of fame. I asked Cabo to think about and discuss this statement with regard to today's generation. I asked him to respond to the statement with a clear, concise thesis statement clearly indicating his position on the statement. He will continue this assignment tomorrow.
Bella reviewed The first unit of SAT vocabulary today. She then began a new novel Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. We discussed the theme of isolation and Bella found the diction the author used to create the setting introduced and how it build the theme.

Cabo began the study of a new nonfiction novel. The Last Days of Night by Graham Moore. We discussed the introduction of the protagonist Paul Cravath and the inventor Thomas Edison. We discussed the setting of 1885 Manhattan. Cabo then reviewed 20 SAT vocabulary words introduced last week. He applied them to a variety of prepared sentences. He then took a practice quiz.
