I. The student will learn the 9 characteristics of a great short story.
Philip read and discussed most of the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson after completing his poem revision. We will use that as a basis for discussion of the 9 elements of a short story next week. Recess shortened our period.
II. The student will read the classic short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson
III. The student will apply the 9 elements of a short story to The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and apply these elements to an original short story to improve the quality of the original work.
I. The student will revise and finish poem on art criticism vs. photography
II. The student will define and write a memoir. Philip readily revises his poetry and prose, accepting constructive criticism while remaining true to his original work.
I. The student will select a writing prompt and finish the short story creatively using examples of The Dog who Thought He was a Cat and Seventh grade as example texts.
