I gave Max a photo and he created a short story about what was happening in the photo. He concentrated on using sensory details and vivid images to allow the reader to understand explicity the character, setting, and story. He completed two pages of his grammar and punctuation book.
I began a lesson today studying CGP Key Stage 3 British Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation. Max has a book that his mom wants to be completed, so we began it today and will continue until completed and mastered. We will begin tomorrow supplementing the book with creative writing.
I discussed sensory details with Max. I then gave him a picture and asked him to write down answers to various questions that would lead him to answer utilizing sensory words. He then used his answers to construct a poem from the picture. I then gave him a comic strip with blank bubbles and he wrote the dialogue for the comic. I then discussed with him synonyms for vague adjectives. I copied a picture from a magazine he brought to school and he answered questions about details in the picture. We will continue with this tomorrow.
This was my first session with Max. We discussed his goals and interests. We made a plan for our time togther. He wrote a creative writing short story and we discussed the elements for improvement and he rewrote the story, understanding the effects.
Today Chase completed her final project. She added revisions and final scenes to ensure that chapter one of her upcoming novel could stand on its own as a publishable excerpt.
