Aubee Billie
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Proofs of triangle congruence
Lesson Outline
Aubee requested help with geometric proofs. I helped her with setting up statements that lead to the conclusion of the proofs. I also directed her to give the reasons why two triangles are congruent and why their corresponding parts are also congruent. Aubee also needed help understanding gravitational attraction from her physics class. No assignment was made.

Lesson Comments
Aubee was very good at providing reasons why different statements were true. She was much better at the end of the session at building the proofs.

Lesson Topic
Review of rotational movement and forces
Lesson Outline
Aubee asked me to review the main topics of the chapter on rotational motion and forces. We went through angular and tangential movement, velocity, and acceleration, centripetal vs centrifugal forces, torque, and rotational inertia. I outlined the approaches to several assigned problems. No homework was assigned.

Lesson Comments
Aubee felt that she understood the material much better at the end of the lesson and felt that she would do well if she could attend the teacher's review session.

Lesson Topic
Proving triangles congruent
Lesson Outline
I reviewed a geometry packet from Aubee's teacher addressing triangle congruence. She expressed a need to know how to construct the steps that lead to a geometric proof. I showed her several important parts of proofs including the given facts, the parts that can be explained in one line, and the logical steps that follow. We covered congruence proven by side-side-side and by side-angle-side.
No assignment was given.

Lesson Comments
Aubee works hard to understand her lessons. She often asks questions that go beyond just passing the course.

Lesson Topic
Circular motion, centripetal force, and torque
Lesson Outline
Aubee brought a slide presentation of physics notes about circular motion, centripetal force, and torque. We started with a discussion about torque and how it is defined as force times the lever arm. We then discussed how centripetal force keeps objects moving in circular paths. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Aubee works hard and has an inquiring mind. I have suggested that she take a more serious physics course when she is a junior or senior.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
Rotational motion
Lesson Outline
We started the lesson with some geometry questions that Aubee wanted answered about slopes of perpendicular lines. I reminded her that the slopes of perpendicular lines are negative reciprocals of each other. We then discussed rotational motion, tangential speed, angular velocity and acceleration, and the way all of those quantities are related. There was no homework assignment.

Lesson Comments
Aubee was very well prepared for the session and didn't need much help in either geometry or physics. She is a wonderful student to work with.

Lesson Topic
Energy, Work, and Simple Machines
Lesson Outline
I helped Aubee answer questions concerning potential energy, kinetic energy, work, friction, and heat. The questions were not mathematical but hypothetical. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Aubee has a very good working knowledge of physics. She understood the answers and was able to answer most of the questions on her own.

Lesson Topic
slopes of lines, slope-intercept and point-slope forms
Lesson Outline
Aubee brought a packet of geometry problems with her and I worked with her to solve problems involving calculation of slope, graphing of lines, slope-intercept formulas, and point-slope formulas. I also showed her how to write the formulas for horizontal and vertical lines through points. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Aubee is a very serious student and is very quick to pick up new material. She understood the geometry lesson perfectly.

Lesson Topic
parallel and perpendicular lines
Lesson Outline
Aubee said that she has a test tomorrow in geometry so we concentrated on the topic that the test will be on. I went through all the pages of a study packet explaining how perpendicular lines and parallel lines are related. I then explained how exterior angles of triangles are related to the two remote angles inside the triangle.
When I felt that Aubee had learned as much geometry as she needed, we worked on her physics. I explained how to solve problems involving power, work, and energy. No homework was given.

Aubee had prepared for her test before she came for tutoring tonight but should be even better prepared because she had a chance to ask some questions about how certain problems could be solved.

Lesson Topic
Work, potential, and kinetic energy
Lesson Outline
I reviewed Chapter 7 with Aubee and explained how work is related to kinetic energy, how it is measured in Joules, and how power is work per unit time. We also explored power units of watts and horsepower. Then I related kinetic energy to mass and velocity. No homework assignment was given.

Lesson Comments
Aubee worked hard during the lesson and has a very good understanding of this topic. She and I worked some problems together and she followed the explanations. I also showed her how the conservation of mechanical energy is demonstrated in the change from potential to kinetic energy.

Lesson Topic
parallel lines intersected by a transversal
Lesson Outline
Aubee and I reviewed a packet of information about parallel lines intersected by a transversal. She then completed some homework problems with my help. There were several proofs. No assignment.

Aubee was able to solve most of the problems without help but she needed reinforcement with finding out which pairs of lines were parallel. We also addressed her questions concerning physics.
