Lesson Topic
Clicker questions on reflection, refraction, and dispersion
Lesson Outline
Aubee brought her laptop computer and I helped her answer multiple choice questions provided by her teacher. Many of the questions were very specific references to the text and required students to give a memorized answer provided by the teacher. We finished all of the questions provided. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Aubee and I were able to locate most of the answers, but the text gave very little explanation as to why the answers were correct. Aubee decided that her best strategy was to memorize the answers she didn't understand.

Interference Patterns in Light
Lesson Outline
I led Aubee through several topics dealing with constructive and destructive interference in light phenomena. We discussed thin film interference which produces the multi-colored patterns seen on oil sheens on water. I also described the way interference patterns arise from out of phase waves in water, sound, and light. I showed Aubee several optical effects including the parallax effect, polarized lenses, and thin film interference slides. I also described how holograms differ from normal photographs. There was no assignment.

Aubee was able to understand the different concepts once they were explained to her. We covered all the topics related to light interference.

Lesson Topic
Special triangles and areas of regular polygons
Lesson Outline
I demonstrated how to find the proportional side-lengths of 30-60-90 degree triangles and 45-45-90 degree triangles and showed her how to apply those proportions to find the areas of regular hexagons, octagons, and squares. We also used trigonometry to find the areas of regular polygons that were not based on the special triangles we had studied. There was no assignment.

After I showed Aubee how to calculate the side-lengths of special triangles, she was able to easily follow my demonstrations of how to find the areas of regular polygons.

Lesson Topic
Reflection, refraction, and other optical effects
Lesson Outline
Aubee wanted me to explain the angles of incidence and reflection. After I showed her the relation of the normal line to the reflecting surface, I showed her how the two angles were equal. Once she understood reflection on plain mirrors, I explained how reflections change in convex and concave mirrors.
I then introduced Aubee to refraction and showed how light bends toward or away from the normal line when it changes from one medium to another. I discussed light in prisms and lenses and how the focal point changes when the lenses are convex or concave. There was no assignment.

Lesson Topic
Fluid statics
Lesson Outline
Aubee wanted to study for a test over topics including buoyancy, pressure, hydraulic lifts, and other static fluid problems. We answered questions from her teacher's practice test to prepare for the test. There was no assignment.

Lesson Topic
angles and sides of polygons
Lesson Outline
Aubee wanted help studying for a quiz on polygons. We reviewed the basic formulas and included properties from earlier studies. Aubee asked to practice some problems using the properties we had reviewed. After we finished reviewing for the quiz we reviewed some physics topics in projectile motion and elliptical motion. There was no assignment.

Review for Semester Exam
Lesson Outline
I worked with Aubee to review topics that she felt she has done poorly on this semester. We reviewed velocity, acceleration, Newton's laws of motion, impulse and momentum, potential and kinetic energy, gravitation and inverse square equations. There was no assignment.

Review Packet
Lesson Outline
Aubee brought a study packet for her physics test. She needed to answer 50 questions covering gravity, potential and kinetic energy, work, angular motion, and other topics from the first semester. We answered the questions together. There was no assignment.

Gravity
Lesson Outline
Aubee asked for help understanding several topics about gravity including tides, gravitational forces at different distances, black holes, and tangential velocity. Aubee had some 'click questions' which the teacher gave as an assignment to help the students study for the test. There was no assignment.

mid-segments in triangles and weightlessness
Lesson Outline
I helped Aubee understand the relationship between midsegments of triangles and the other sides. She wanted to understand how the midsegments are parallel to the third side and half the length. We worked some problems about that relationship.
I then helped her with her physics in reference to free fall and weightlessness. I also showed her a YouTube video about a feather and a bowling ball falling at the same rate in a vacuum chamber. There was no assignment.
