Nico began learning how to write a biography. He researched and took notes on Martin Luther King, Jr. on a Google doc. He began reading a Goosebumps book to complete a later creative writing project inspired by a scary story.
Nico worked more on main idea and key details using images from a Knights book. He learned the mnemonic "I before E, except after C, or when sounded as A as in neighbor and weigh."
Nico practiced writing the main idea and key details from several historical illustrations. We discussed how the main idea is general and key details point out specific details.
Describe the difference in opinion writing vs. argumentative writing. Read examples of each and what the argumentative writing has that the opinion paper does not.
Nico practiced writing the main idea today. He observed photographs, we read the caption, and he wrote his own caption/main idea of the photographs. We worked on the correct usages and spellings of there, their and they're.
Nico read a book about volcanoes as inspiration for his creative writing comic strip. He continued adding to the plot line and drew illustrations for his comic strip.
PJ worked on a student hand-out on figurative language. He looked up the seven types of figurative language and wrote two sentences for each. He reviewed the meanings of idiom, simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, and alliteration and provided sentences exemplifying each. PJ remained focused on the task at hand and worked independently at an efficient pace.

PJ has a great imagination! We worked on an outline for the core elements of an original story of PJ's design about a fantasy world thats invaded by aliens. I would prompt him with questions about the setting and characters as we worked our way through the various elements. He really seemed to enjoy the process of building out his fantasy world and populating it with characters and legends. I hope he keeps working on the story, I'd love to read the finished product one day!
