Use research to write about a character that is of interest. Have a background story and how it sets the character in the present. Write a story for this character that uses the research and current perceptions of them to create a beginning, middle and end for them. Today is mainly the research and planning phase.
Review two passages: one fiction and one nonfiction with questions. Use strategies learned so far to complete the answers to the questions. Discuss why he chose the answers with support from the passages. Continue to work on the writing he is developing.

This is a double session as we switched his virtual session from today to yesterday during my class time.
Take out the writing Chris has been working on and edit it for spelling and grammar. Discuss if there is an evident beginning, middle, and end. Review if the setting of when and where makes sense.
Work on how to answer questions for nonfiction passages. Pre-read the questions to find ones that are focused and how to find the detail in the passage. Practice scanning the passage for important vocabulary that stands out based on the title. Answer the questions and review the answers.
Take the directions written last week about baseball and see if they are complete. Perform the steps written and edit as needed. Work together to complete the directions.
Take a short passage and practice answering questions by reviewing parts of the passage. Use clues in the question to know where to look and underline where the answer is found. Discuss how some are general questions and don't have a specific place to find the answer.
Look at the script Chris has done so far. Have him listen to me read it out to him so he hears what he likes and doesn't so far. This is the setting he created.
Continue to work on the script started yesterday. Have Chris first go over what he has written and decide if his story is beginning to develop the way he wants. Also refresh what he has done so that the story continues fluidly.
After brainstorming about some ideas for movies Chris has been thinking about, we researched scripts for animated movies and how they are written. We read them together to get an idea of how these scripts develop and how they are different than normal writing and reading.
Continue to do passage reading practice and answering questions. Have Chris point out the focus questions and then go to where he can find the answers before reading the entire passage...show that he may be able to answer some of the general passage questions from the other answers.
