We worked on scaling blocks to insert fixtures and scale items into the plan drawing. We downloaded a block of vehicles to use in the garage, and we had to change the units from Metric to Imperial, and then scale it to properly fit our drawing. We found the scale factor by finding the proportion between how the block was drawn and what we needed the size to be, and then divided the two numbers to get the scale factor.
We continued drawing the stairs in different views on the elevations. We are finished with 3 of the building elevations and will complete the fourth next class.
We spent a portion of the time getting AutoCAD installed and running on Ayden's home computer. During that time, we used the RoBlox house building features to talk about space allocation, flow and circulation through a living space. We also talked about form and function of space. In our second hour, we continued working on the Garage building redesign project. We are working on finishing the elevation views of the external stairs.
We began using an app called Home Design 3D that allows basic layout of spaces with doors, windows, and circulation. Sebastian really enjoyed letting his imagination go and designing a fantasy home for himself. The app allows you to place furniture and fixtures in the home, and see orhtogonal as well as 3-D views. It also allows 3D walk through views.
We began researching the building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, India. It is currently the tallest finished building in the world, and we researched interesting facts about it: when it was designed, the design architect's name, construction method, engineering and architectural innovations necessary to complete construction, etc. We will create a small research project and build a model to represent the building.
Assignment
Record the research we did and compile the facts into a written paragraph or two. Begin thinking about ways to build a small model of the building.
