Today Chris read the article "A Quick Note on Getting Better at Difficult Things" by Ta-Nehisi Coates. We paused throughout the text to assess his understanding of unfamiliar words. I prompted him to use context clues to define them. We also paused to check for comprehension of the text. At the end, we answered critical thinking questions to assess his understanding of the text.
David planned the next part of his story, continuing with the exposition. He explored name choices for the characters as well as significant places in the story. We discussed symbolism and implications of different names.
