After several calls and no response, Elise called the mom. Alexa was ill.
I would like some guidance on how to grade her. I have asked her to photograph some pages in her sketch book. But, she hasn't done that, yet.
Alexa and I began to review the topics we have covered this past year in class. Today's exercises were simplifying expressions. She remembered to add and subtract like terms, but needed refreshing on the distributive property.

Alexa did not call until 9:40. I tried to call multiple times prior to that.
Alexa didn't answer my call. Elise texted her and her mom. Alexa finally called me back. She was in bed and said she was extremely tired. We talked for a while and then I let her go to lunch.
I reviewed the elements of a short story with Alexa. We discussed/reviewed: theme, rising action/falling action, denouement, climax and types of conflict just to name a few. Alexa read the short story. We then answered in essay form some of the detailed essay questions. We also discussed the short story. It is somewhat difficult to understand. Alexa will continue answering some of the questions for homework.
The growth of a population under ideal conditions was presented, and the type of growth seen by a exponential graph or "j" curve.
Ideal conditions were discussed, and noted that this type of growth does not continue indefinitely.
The most common limiting factors involved in the growth and reproduction of organisms in the ecosystem were presented. The effect of the limiting factor of nutrients was used as an example to show the effect on the ecosystem cycle of energy. A simple food chain was presented along with an explanation of each of the trophic levels affected by changes in the nutrient levels. The loss of energy from one trophic level to the next was shown, and the amount of biomass presented. The food chain was simply listed, and then expanded into a food web.
Alexa and I completed her literary essay. We revised for stronger verb choice and better diction. We also edited for spelling and punctuation errors. I also reviewed how to construct a works cited page and how to format a final copy using MLA. Alexa properly formatted her paper and turned it in for evaluation. She did a nice job. We will begin a short story unit next week.
