Jaydn and I connected and she had her camera off. I asked her to turn it on. The internet went out. I could connect for a few minutes toward the end of the period and I asked her to work on her IXL diagnostic and her recommendation walk along with her take home test. She says she will, but she rarely does homework.
Jaydn began lesson by asking to use the lavatory. Upon her return, I asked her to turn her camera on. Today she did not want to turn her camera on as she and her mother are both sick and she feels "over-stimulated." Jaydn has only completed 10 questions and worked on this assessment for 12 minutes. I encouraged her to log in and begin, as this assessment is overdue. I assured her I would monitor her progress and adjust her grades accordingly. We reviewed other outstanding assignments, and I reposted the 3 sources for her paragraph/essay on plastic.

We defined the Harlem Renaissance and discussed Langston Hughes's poem "A Dream Deferred" and applied it to the character of Ruth in the play.
Jaydn took notes readily in docs and really seemed to enjoy reading dialogue aloud from the play. She read Ruth's role insightfully and with inflection. She is keeping track of the characters with a chart. She said she was ill, but was on task for the session.

English III Jaydn turned on her camera which was amazing. I had told her to make it her New Year's resolution. We reviewed exit and entrance exams and the difference between. We discussed the organizational aspects of the class and selected "A Raisin in the Sun" as a literature selection. I provided background to the Civil Rights Movement and introduced Lorraine Hansberry as the first African American female to have a play produced on Broadway. Jaydn then worked on the IXL diagnostic and will complete for homework by 1/11/23. Extra credit provided in assignment to complete outline on Source A for her informational reading and writing. Jaydn was in good spirits.
Matthew was on time and prepared to begin his class. We reviewed his DE English course including his current grade (100% - GREAT job, Matthew), his opinion of the teacher so far, his final/assignment date, and registration for next semester. He spent the end of the period completing his reading assignment for class.
