Ayden and I co-read Chapter 5 of the novel, The Hobbit. Ayden read with good prosody and comprehension. When we complete Chapter 6, I will assign a writing project to complete in class.
Ayden and I co-read The Hobbit, pausing to discuss the plot, figurative language, and vocabulary. Ayden remarked that much of the imagery and characters have been replicated in some of his favorite video games and then shared a few examples with me.
Ayden and I co-read half of Chapter 2 of The Hobbit. Topics of discussion included the theme of the quest and Tolkein's use of figurative language. Ayden is reading quite well and seems to be enjoying the book.
Ayden and I began The Hobbit, co-reading from our individual hard copies of the book. I was delighted with Ayden's prosody and comprehension. I assigned multiple-choice questions via Google Docs for homework.
I helped Ayden follow up on the PERT testing scheduled for this week (Jan 6, 7, 8). He needs to have the Zoom link to take the test. Next, we reviewed the writing portion of the test (grammar) and took a practice test. To conclude, we brainstormed the next book to read together and decided that The Hobbit would be a good option. I will contact Elise at school and find out if there is a copy in the Batt School library.
