Today, Natalie and I spent some time getting to know each other. Next, we discussed the white nationalist rally and violence in Charlottesville, VA this weekend. We created a list of abstract questions that were prompted from reading an article about the violence and fighting. Natalie and I researched and discussed the answers to those questions, such as: should hate speech be protected under our first amendment.
Zach completed a thorough outline of his "The Namesake" Theme Essay. He revised his thesis statements and supporting points and found specific textual evidence in the book, in the poem "Alone" by Maya Angelou, and from other sources to support the arguments in his essay. Next, he began constructing his Works Cited page.
Zach researched primary and secondary sources for the next Literary Analysis Essay he will write about identity and the immigrant experience as represented in the book "The Namesake." He made an outline, and found citations to use from each source. Zach also reached out to his teacher to schedule the module 3 DBA and emailed students in the peer discussion forum to try to arrange a peer collaboration project.
Zach revised and completed the final draft of his narrative writing assignment. He then completed a peer review assignment, where he gave constructive criticism and feedback to another student in his class. Next, he completed an assignment that asked him to evaluate his choice of novel for the next module.
Zach and I went over three segments on writing a narrative. We covered adding details, scenery and dialogue to make the writing more interesting. We looked at examples of such from "The Cask of Amontillado." Zach wrote an introduction and added multiple body paragraphs to his narrative. Next, we went over revising the draft, and Zach began the revision process.
Zach read "The Cask of Amontillado" and completed a number of assignments that required him to demonstrate his ability to make inferences, summarize theme and mood, and construct a narrative.
