Jared pretends to be uninterested in certain subject matters, but I can see that he actually is. I'm going to push him to do real well in his comparison essay I've assigned to him.
Today we finished reading the story. We then delved into the varied themes such as Nature versus Science, the concept of narcissism, and also did a close analysis of the characters as well as the symbolism present in the story. The girls were so very insightful! (as usual!) We discussed the vocabulary that they will be studying for a quiz next week.
The girls and I read "The Birthmark" and discussed main themes, morals, and character and plot analysis. We took note of vocabulary words that we will learn then take subsequent test.
Review of essay and the uses of adjectives and adverbs

Jared wrote three solid paragraphs in which there were only minor organizational and grammatical errors. We reviewed how adjectives and adverbs are used in writing, and we also had a short philosophical discussion of how fiction gets us to think about real-life circumstances.

Due to the fact that Jared has to make up some time for 9th grade English, he has 3-1/2 hours of English tutoring on Tuesdays, which I think is a little too much to retain his attention.
We looked at the essay "Giving Up Baby" and discussed how to write an introduction with attention grabbers, general background information referencing audience, and effective thesis development. We then continued on how to connect topic sentences and paragraph development.
