We began our discussion by reviewing a computer program as a set of commands created by people to do something and that computers only follow the program’s instructions. Brandon had the use of the computer coding robot, Dash, and demonstrated his facility using the computer. He had excellent eye-hand coordination and knew exactly what and how he wanted the computer to operate. Brandon sustained excellent concentration as he typed commands for Dash to follow and was able to correctly identify tasks that are made easier because of computers, recognized different types of computers, and was able to create a simple algorithm, individually and collaboratively using the computers to complete the task desired. Brandon seemed to enjoy explaining what he was doing to this tutor and responded cooperatively and thoroughly to inquiries, satisfied with the enthusiastic response he received when his explanation was understood. Brandon demonstrated excellent ability to use instructional and assistive technology to locate and access information and participate in computer-based instruction.
Today I introduced Charlie to a program called Typing Club. He has his username and password, so he can practice or complete assignments anytime. He learned the home row today and did an excellent job with his words per minute and accuracy. We also used an app called Blockly to code Dash. Charlie was given the task to create a lake for Dash to look for trash to pick up inside. We will continue this task next week. Please remind Charlie to bring his laptop on Tuesdays. Thank you!
Dylan and I got to know each other. I observed his computer knowledge by asking him to complete a couple tasks on his Mac computer. I taught him what the mouse cursor is and how to Google information. We played around on Google Maps and located where his house is and some restaurants he has been to. Last I introduced him to Dash the robot. We played around with Dash by giving him some simple commands in basic programming. Dylan did a nice job today!
Today Charlie and I got to know one another. We shared a few things about our life such as hobbies and interests. I explained to Charlie how we will be doing basic coding with a robot named Dash. We took Dash out of the box and explored his basic functions. We went on Google Apps and Charlie showed me what he knows about using Google Docs. He will use Google to share documents with me that he completes for assignments. He did a great job and I can tell what a fast learner he is!
Kelcy will be working on a poster of famous Nintendo characters. I will have him work with the Wacom tablet to see how comfortable he is with the tool. We will work with the Lasso tool function of Photoshop to increase his production. He will also learn some about the shortcut keys within Photoshop.
