Checking How Personal Opinion Persuasive Essay Can Be Set Up
Lesson Outline
Spent the time to review the "triangle" of topic, writer, and audience. Used the example of Stop Question Frisk as a practice of the NYC policy department. Discussed the difference of a speech describing SQF delivered to a good group of policy officers versus a black audience. What happens within the minds of the black community when they see a police officer (especially a white police office) giving a speech to them? Discussed the question in terms of the audience's personal experience, personal knowledge, beliefs, assumptions, positions, and warrants. Went on to discuss the importance of acknowledging the beliefs, assumptions, and positions already in play, before the writer or speaker transitions to his or her contribution to the conversation. Reviewed two formulas: "Some people say....Other people would argue...Still others claim....I would suggest...." or "It might be argued that....It might be argued that....It might be argued.... Recent research suggests..... Discussed fleshing out Vlad's discussions of (1) financial disagreements, (2) cheating, and (3) falling out of love as three major reasons for divorce -- to be followed by Vlad's overriding cause of divorce: being unhappy. Discussed the place and risks of supporting a claim using examples. Discussed the need to break down and analyze reasons for people "falling out of love." Discussed how "unhappy" cause could be the underlying reason for (1), (2), and (3). Discussed the concept of "tipping point" and how "I'm not happy" or "Are you that unhappy?" could be the perfect tipping point. Discussed what would have to go into an introductory paragraph, what would have to go into a concluding paragraph. Tried out sample titles and discussed why some are much better than others.

Lesson Outline
Introduced Vlad to the triangle. At the point of triangle put Topic; at lower left corner put Writer; at lower right corner put Audience. Audience has, personal experiences, personal knowledge, beliefs, assumptions, positions, and warrants. Writer can use research; "Some people say,... Other people, say....Still others say.... I would suggest......"; examples; 3 arguments. Always remember the importance of being open-minded, unbiased. Went through the exercise of writing an essay on the topic of the causes of divorce. Vlad filled in the arguments for "some people....other people....still others ....I would suggest..... Vlad's paper due Wednesday.

Lesson Outline
Vlad opened his Walk Cycle file, created a copy of of his animation, and downsized each layer by 1/8. Vlad opened the timeline panel and created a frame of animation for each layer. Vlad played the animation to make sure there were no issues. Vlad went through each of the frames and moved the character up and down to simulate walking over a set of hills. Vlad saved his file and exported it as an mp4 file.

Proofreading Final Version of CORVID-19 research paper
Lesson Outline
Went over every area that needed editing: rewording for clarification; verb choice; verb tense; missing information to anticipate the reader's questions; redundancy; apostrophies and other punctuation errors including missing commas; italics where needed; paragraphing; citation links to Works Cited page; spacing used on Works Cited page. Using Google Docs, Vlad sent me copy of the finished research paper. Spent half an hour walking Vlad through the Purdue OWL website. Went over all the writing style guides Purdue teaches in depth, all the writing assignments Purdue OWL goes over in detail, and all the sample essays and reports Purdue OWL teaches and illustrates. Emphasized that Vlad needs to become fully aware of the wealth of information the Purdue website offers, and just as importantly, Vlad should check with his professors what style guide he or she wants Vlad to use. I mentioned that some engineering colleges publish their own style guides, and Vlad should be aware of which style guide to use with each assignment.

Finalizing Research Paper
Lesson Outline
Spent time with Vlad researching Ninja Nerd Science and TEDEd. Read several articles and picked up a few new quotes for Vlad's paper. Added a new visual for the first paragraph to have a visual showing the spike in deaths attributed to Covid-19 worldwide. Added new entries to Works Cited page. Went over the importance to Part One of the Sandwich: citing the source of the forthcoming quote and providing the source's credentials. Double-checked that the paper fulfilled the promise made in the thesis statement and, secondly, the paper answered the questions posed at the start of the paper. Thought through the wording of the concluding paragraph.
Assignment
Vlad to send me this last draft and proofread the draft so we can agree on Wednesday we are ready to print the final product.

Lesson Comments
Vlad had no problem staying on task. Had Vlad order a student copy of Sadlier Level E vocabulary builder. Vlad had only an earlier edition. We need to spend the remainder of the term completing units 11 and 12. I am glad Vlad and I were able to get in a series of research paper lessons before the end of the term, and, importantly, Vlad producted a research paper he can be proud of.
