Ryan and Jeff and I completed and discussed practice exams and reviewed answers and strategies. They will be taking the SAT again in August. I also gave each of the boys a packet with tips and strategies to review. We will refer to these as we go along.
Ryan, Jeff and I went through reading comprehension passages ad English grammar sections from our SAT books. We discussed last minute strategies for the ACT before their test. I believe they will both do well, most likely better than the last test. They seem to like the SAT better, so after this, we give the next SAT another go. :)
ACT PREP Reading Comprehension and English Grammar
Lesson Outline
Jeff and Ryan and I practiced more Reading Comp passages for the ACT. We did not time them this time. We discussed strategy and discussed why they got certain answers wrong and how to get past this on the ACT. We also practiced English grammar and convention exercises. I gave them each an ACT resource and test strategy packet to review at home.
We talked about the differences between SAT and ACT . We discussed when to take an educated guess and how to make a complete guess. We finished about 75 percent of the math exam.
The boys just took their SAT test, and now we are prepping for the ACT. They each purchased a book and we are going to go through the entire book's Reading Comprehension and English sections. We discussed the differences between the SAT and ACT. There is a difference in the nature of the questions so we are refocusing our strategies.
Jeff, Ryan and I went through three reading comprehension practices and discussed our answers. This time I timed them to practice time management skills. Both of them, for each passage, finished under the time. We discussed answers that were wrong and how we could use strategies and context clues to avoid this. It is interesting and productive to work with the three of us, as it adds more perspectives to the reasonings behind each answer. Both boys did very well. We also practiced about 15 minutes of the English grammar section.
