Jackson forgot to continue writing the feature story he was assigned to do. After reviewing the elements of a feature story, showing an example of a feature story which I did for FOX Sports, he continued to write the story for both sessions with guidance.

Jackson was engaged, attentive and sharp. I chose his mythical Live Shot to be on the MLB Network, where he is the reporter (and unique participant) in the Wood Bat Championship @ Jupiter---a topic he would be very familiar with and aware of aspects. As anticipated, he gravitated to the idea quickly and ideas exchange rapidly and concepts absorbed well.

Continued: Staying Present is demonstrated by having Jackson learn the structure of being an on the spot reporter and doing a "Live Shot". In our mythical Live Shot for class Jackson started the script to be on the scene for the MLB Network where he is uniquely not only the Reporter but also a participant (give viewers very unique perspective!) Jackson is guided by instructor to think critically about what would viewers benefit the most from seeing/ learning from his Live Report. Then instruct him in how to write a story via 'elements' (Facts, 5W's, Angle, attribution, perspective, authorities / participants interviewed)

Jackson made great progress today and in fact, during the second session, completed his "internal package" (the pre-produced edits/story) within his mythical Live Shot. Luckily for him, I can draw a lot of parallels to baseball in a good reporters approach to a story.
It's very important in TV News to Present Tense. It's called the News because its supposed to be NEW. Staying Present is demonstrated by having Jackson learn the structure of being an on the spot reporter and doing a "Live Shot". It's very important in TV News to Present Tense. Rather ironically, Jackson arrived well past the start time of the first session. We did get plenty accomplished as we started when he finally arrived (moving forward Victoria will scheduling TV Sportscasting class to being at 7:30am
3 Sessions rolled into one 3 hour Monday class. Talk about the value of Assuming Nothing. Broadcaster cannot assume viewer knows anything about the topic. 5 W's are a must. The basic foundation to every story. Tell the story, how to answer questions with such detail.

Jackson immediately connects with instructor & content as I tailor much of the subject matter to his interest in baseball. Could easily identify favorite sportscasters, watches plenty of espn.
