In this activity, Xavier solved linear equations that required a two-step process. This exercise required Xavier to use the additive inverse and multiplicative inverses.
Introductions; Vocabulary.com 1 round - 60% accuracy (Xavier's feedback on the words: he knew what each of them were, but the way they were presented in sentences/defined confused him. We will keep at this list for a few more sessions while I work on determining his exact level for instruction; San Diego Quick Assessment of Readability - Xavier will keep reading words on each list until he makes 3+ errors on a single list (part A- no mistakes on 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade leveled words; 1 error on 6th grade level words (this indicates independent reading level approximation; however this is very much a preliminary assessment). We will complete the San Diego Quick Assessment on Thursday.

In this activity, Xavier simplified radicals using inverse operations. The activity used square root and cubed root equations. The lesson also had several word problems involving radicals.
I helped Xavier interpret two primary source documents and two political cartoons about Reconstruction in the South. He answered and edited a series of short answer questions.
Xavier had to pick six possible summer reading books and write a paragraph for each, detailing why he was interested in each book. I helped Xavier make a list, research each title, and write and edit an argument for each.
Xavier has to write an argumentative essay for language arts class. The topic is "should Shakespeare be taught anymore?" He has to draw from an essay on the topic as well as the text A Midsummer's Night Dream. I helped Xavier to brainstorm and write an outline.
