In this activity, we were going to continue working on his EOC exam. Ben had several questions on problems from class in preparation for his last test of the quarter. Sunday we will continue to work on the EOC test.
In this activity, Ben wanted to start with Range and Domain and how to write them in interval notation using the symbol for infinity. We ended the session working on trinomial factorization. In the next session we are going to work on practice exams for his final standardized test.
Ben practiced his monologue and song for his upcoming audition for Annie. We went over some movements he could do during his song. We went over some moments in his monologue to make sure to emphasize.
Ben went over the details of his upcoming audition. We went over the song choice that he decided to use for the audition. We also went over the monologue that Ben chose to use.
In this activity, Ben used the calculator apps to analyze polynomial functions of degree 1-4. The purpose of this session was to work with functions and not basic skills. From now on functions will play a bigger role in his study of mathematics. We focused on polynomial functions which will be a major part of his studies.
I reviewed with Ben the characteristics for each paragraph of a high-level essay. He then reread and completed the essay he has been working on. He then orally completed an essay from a prompt I gave him from a novel he is presently reading.
Ben and I began the session with reading comprehension and fluency, reading an article about the photographer Dorothea Lange, followed by a short video about her life and work. Mrs. Zatouni joined us for the second half of the session, and I demonstrated an OG lesson. I conducted a phonological awareness exercise followed by a sound deck review with visual and auditory drills. I dictated regular spelling: stress, flack, stretch, pledge, hitting, giving, hoped. For irregular spelling, I dictated: fought, bought, brought. I dictated a sentence for Ben to write and edit (The United States fought the Germans in World War II.) Ben syllabicated and read a list of VC/CV and V/CV words.
Ben rehearsed his lines for Matilda. He designed a fantasy makeup idea. He applied the makeup to his face. He improvised a character he created with his made up face. We worked on an A-Z improv.
