Abby and I continued our study of the novel. We discussed the setting in great detail. Abby has been to some of the places in Italy where the novel takes place. She has offered great description to me about some of the locations. We answered the study guide questions accompanying the chapters that were read. We use them as a springboard to our discussion.

Abby and I began with an introduction to the novel. We read the introduction written by Hemingway himself. We discussed the time period--World War I. We discussed the setting of the novel which is Italy--where Abby has visited. We read chapter one and answered the accompanying study guide questions.

Sadlier vocabulary and Introduction to AP Literature
Lesson Outline
Abby and I completed some vocabulary activities applying her above level words. She really does an excellent job with the application activities. We then discussed a syllabus for AP English. We discussed the texts necessary to fulfill an AP requirement. Abby has agreed to follow the AP English literature curriculum. We will begin with Hemingway's A FAREWELL TO ARMS.

Comma Splices and Sadlier Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
Abby and I did some interactive grammar activities dealing mainly with comma splices and fused sentences. Abby did quite well and understands the concepts well. We then began working in her vocabulary book. We learned the new words and began completing the application activities that follow the introduction of words.

Abby and I are still determining what we will study this year. I shared with her the novel THE GLASS CASTLE by Jeannette Walls. She agreed that she would like to read this novel. We also discussed some grammar questions. We began to briefly review her vocabulary.

Abby and I discussed what we hoped to accomplish this school year. I book talked a few novels. We chose to begin the year with A FAREWELL TO ARMS by Ernest Hemingway. We planned for the year. We then proceeded to review some of the words in her vocabulary book.

Olivia and I completed the vocabulary portion of her final exam. Olivia did quite well. She also turned in completed the written literary portion of her summative assessment. Olivia and I discussed how the exercises in the vocabulary book prepares a student for the ACT/SAT.

Olivia and I discussed her progress with her summative assessment on the novel. She assures me that she will be finished tomorrow. We then proceeded to work in her vocabulary book. We completed lesson six. She needs to complete the cumulative review on lessons four-six for a summative assessment grade.

Olivia and I discussed the progress on the summative assessment for the novel. She is about 75% finished. She will have it completed by Thursday. We then continued to work through the vocabulary book. Olivia needs to complete lesson six and then the cumulative review for lessons four-six in the vocabulary book as part of her final assessment.
