We worked in the pre-writing for Zach's Hamlet packet. We went through the play act by act, so he could write his summary. He has a good understanding of the play and it's characters. All he has to do is write it up.
Zach did a pretty solid job with the first two acts of Hamlet. He missed a lot of important details, but that's to be expected. We went over it, focusing on the scenes leading up to his monologue. He seems to be very comfortable with the idea of what he has to do and the range of emotion he's going to have to show to pull it off. I asked him to start outlining for the paper so we can work on it next week.
Zach has a large project for his theater class in which he has to read a Shakespearean play, write about the plot, and perform a monologue from the play. In classic Zach fashion, he want's his performance to have a certain gravitas, so he has decided to tackle Hamlet. (I'm so proud.) I showed him 4-5 monologues from the play, we talked about the basic plot and characters, and read the first scene together. I have to say, it was a lot of fun.
Zach has his english exam tomorrow and was in pretty good shape. We went over how to organize his information and good study techniques. We then went over all the different literary devices he is responsible for tomorrow. He should be in good shape.
discuss reading
Why we relate to characters
joseph Campbell/journey of the hero
Zach was a little under the weather, but we had a very good conversation about the book and why the reader can relate to the autistic main character. That led to a bigger discussion of hero's and myths and Joseph Campbell. Zach was very into the discussion and got a lot out of it.

-pop culture assignment

-literary analysis paper
Abbey couldn't say for certain what the paper was that she had to do. I wasn't sure if this was a new paper or the paper that's already late. So we focused on human geography. We completed the chapter packet and did internet research about pop-culture.
