Abbey has completed a lot of work in the last week, but as of today she hadn't handed any of it in. She needs to be more proactive in getting her work to her teachers, and not just wait until the next class. We completed her English assignment for tomorrow and the re-write for her art paper.

Patrick did a great job today in his new typing program. He completed 3 modules in Lesson 1. These modules consisted of typing letters and words ending in -ed. His accuracy was between 89-97% in all three modules. In LB, Patrick worked on a story about a penguin. He learned new vocabulary and created word summaries and picture summaries and answered questions which demonstrated his comprehension. Patrick completed three activities in Fast ForWord. Today we slowed down and practiced making the sounds with our mouths to ensure that Patrick understands the sounds that are being made. He did a great job and his effort today was extremely good!

Dialectical journal
vocabulary journal

Abbey didn't do any work after our last session on Tuesday. Consequently, we had to spend today finishing it up. She completed the dialectical journal and should hand it in tomorrow. She also has 25 vocab words, the sentence they appear in, the name of the article and the source. All she has to do is look up each word and write it all out. She assured me it would be done tonight.

Lesson Comments
Abbey had a tough day today. We spent the first part of the session figuring out exactly what she's already done and what she has to do. She had started on the outline, but only done three quotes; she did the vocabulary assignment, but left one step and the teacher told her to do it again; and she hadn't done anything for the literary analysis outline/paper. She had low energy and was unfocused from the start. I haven't seen her like this before. She spent a lot of time staring into space about half-way through the session she started crying and didn't stop. I think she's got a lot going on and is totally overwhelmed right now. We weren't able to finish everything, but got everything set up so she could finish it home with her mom.

Discuss The Curious Case the Dog in the Night

Zach started a new book in English, and as he didn't have his computer with him, we couldn't work on editing his Napoleon paper. But we had a great discussion about the start of the book, and the impact of the narrator being Autistic. We talked about themes he wanted to look for while reading and also about how to develop his annotations a little better.

I wasn't allowed to edit his Napolean paper, but I did read it and gave Zach some notes to focus on when he proofreads it. (which he had not done.) We then talked about our plan to work on writing moving forward and Zach has agreed to read a book with me and work on his writing that way. We spent the rest of the session talking about compound/complex sentences and how to punctuate them.

Abbey lost the notes from her first interview, so she had to do both of them over the phone at the beginning of the session. We put the information together and produced a solid piece of writing that she will hand in tomorrow. We then edited and rewrote her paragraph about the Arch of Titus for Art History.

Abbey had not done her migration interviews before coming in, so we weren't able to get that one completed. She did do one of them by phone, but couldn't do the other. We worked on getting her AIDS research project done and it was handed in before she left.
