Today's lesson focused on study skills. Cabo reviewed his current homework assignments and discussed his efforts in completing them. Cabo participated in discussing recent events and his views on gun control. Cabo discussed his understanding of the 1st amendment and its relevance to current events in our nation. Cabo was on task.
Matthew practiced writing one of his Spanish paragraphs for his final exam.
He did a great job for a practice. However, if that same answer were submitted on the actual final he would probably receive 23/30 (a solid "C") points for the attempt. He was given that feedback and encouraged to study.
He also worked on his English paper - implementing notes that I gave him.
Matthew continued to work on his English essay. We focused on moving away from big general statements and replaced them with concise, focused, supportable statements.
Matthew put in the requisite mental work to implement this new way of writing.
Tristan completed homework such as, language arts - introducing vocabulary with the story, "Let's Make Art" learning the vocabulary words such as jealous, roam, misty, create, dainty, compete, edge, attach, silent, and damage; math - reviewing tens and adding tens. Example, 6 tens = 60 and 6 tens + 3 tens = 9 tens. Tristan also went on Math Prodigy for 10 minutes.
Matthew worked on his English essay. Together we read the notes that his teacher gave him and worked to the best of our abilities to implement those ideas into his essay.
He then started to work on finishing his Chemistry Test.
Tristan completed homework such as, language arts - suffixes, adding 'er' to the end of action verbs to make a new word that tells what a person does and read one page in the book, "Rose and Weed"; math - identifying how many groups of chocolate chips and then multiplying the two numbers.
Cabo worked with his computer science teacher. They discussed ideas regarding safety of information and ethics regarding technology.
They also discussed upcoming computer topics.
When they had finished Cabo and I began work on Spanish.
Cabo was given a writing prompt that was written in Spanish. It is the type of prompt that is more similar to a Spanish 3 class than Spanish 2 in order to prepare him for the year ahead.
He was asked to discuss Miami as a cultural center for Spanish speaking peoples. We discussed several approaches that he could take for a 5 paragraph essay on the subject. They included two very different approaches to the idea.
Tristan completed homework such as, math - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division review problems, paying close attention to the operation sign. Tristan then participated in a school-wide activity, enjoying ice-cream sundaes.
