Canterbury Tales, vocabulary and diary of a Part-time Indian
Lesson Outline
Sam and I finished discussing the Wife of Bath's Tale. Sam finished writing her analytical answer to one of the extended response questions. We discussed ways to improve answering extended responses including the citation of textual evidence. We then studied the first set of vocabulary words in the Sadlier Vocabulary book.Sam did quite well on the practice exercises. Then we discussed the Sherman Alexee novel. We discussed what the culminating project will be. We discussed the novel up to the chapter that Sam had read. She will have the book read by next Thursday.
Samantha did a good job in class today! Samantha did all of her homework, I am so proud of her! Today we learned about a South American group called "Bacilos". We listened and did an activity about one of their famous songs called "colores, colores". We also learned some new vocabulary and grammar from chapter 2 of her book. For homework, she will practice on duolingo and she will listen to more Spanish music.
We continued our reading and discussion of Chaucer's "Wife of Bath Tale." We compared the tale to modern times. Sam also took a brief quiz with two analytical questions. We discussed the correct way to answer the essay responses including complete explanation of the textual evidence. Sam is to complete a brief quiz/sheet on the vocabulary used within the tale.
Samantha did a good job today! She came ready to learn! She took a quiz and she did a good job in class. Today we started a new chapter. We learned how to describe others in Spanish. We practiced orally and did a written exercise. She was able to describe her family and herself. For homework, she will review the vocabulary at home.
Sam needed to finish her assignment on "The Pardoner's Tale" for the first ten minutes of class. We then continued to the "Wife of Bath's Tale." We read the Wife of Bath's description in the prologue. We talked about her expertise in love and marriage. We then read the Prologue to "The Wife of Bath's Tale." We continued on to reading the actual tale. We stopped periodically to discuss and interpret Chaucer's Middle English language and beliefs.
Algebraic long division and synthetic division and factoring polynomials
Lesson Outline
The plan was to guide Samantha through the procedures of polynomial long division and synthetic division by a binomial. I was also going to show her how the remainder of such division equals the polynomial evaluated at the constant part of the devisor. I would also have shown how complete factorization of a polynomial expression results from the division mentioned above. Since Samantha was not present today, I will present this lesson next time I teach her. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
I have seen Samantha once in two weeks. This does not result in good learning in mathematics.
