Polynomial long and synthetic division and factoring polynomials
Lesson Outline
The plan was to continue guiding Samantha through her study of polynomials by showing her the division of polynomials by binomials. I was going to show her the two methods, the first being modeled on the regular long division in ordinary math and the second being synthetic division. I was also going to show her how these two methods can contribute to factoring polynomials. Since Sam was not present today, I will present this lesson the next time I teach her. There was no assignment.

Finish Test on Quadratic Functions and start Polynomials
Lesson Outline
Samantha worked almost the entire time on finishing the test. I graded the test and found that she had made a perfect score plus answered the bonus question correctly for ten extra points.
After the test, I introduced the next topic which is about polynomials. I defined the terms 'monomial' and 'polynomial' and helped Sam understand standard form and degree of a polynomial. I showed her the expansion of a binomial raised to the third power. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Sam is very bright and has studied this material before. Therefore, much of our lessons consist of review of the material.
In preparation for tomorrow's test, we created a study guide by reviewing key terms ,charts, and diagrams in the text. Sam took notes on the Articles of Confederation, the Enlightenment, the Declaration's structure and substance, and the Constitutional Convention. We then reviewed and modified Sam's homework responses which dealt with these subjects. Homework-study for tomorrow's test on ch2 and 3. We will begin studying the provisions of the Constitution next.
We did a review of force dynamics and statics and Newton's second law in higher dimensions. Some sample problems were completed with a thorough explanation of the physics involved.
Sam and I read "The Pardoner's Tale" by Chaucer. Sam really enjoyed the tale, and she provided some very intricate insights to it. We stopped and discussed the story as we read. After finishing reading, we defined some of the difficult vocabulary within the work. We tried to use context clues to decipher the meaning of the word. When we couldn't, we looked up the word. Sam has a brief open book quiz to complete on "The Pardoner's Tale" which she started at the end of class.
We talked about Sam's independent novel PART-TIME INDIAN by Sherman Alexee. We decided on the essay questions that she would answer after she finished reading the novel. We discussed the correct structure to use to answer the essay questions. She must include at least two examples of textual evidence to support each answer.Everything is to be completed by Friday November 2nd. We then reviewed the character of the Pardoner from the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. We then read the prologue to the Pardoner's Tale.

Samantha was very focused today! I am so proud of her! Even though she has missed some classes, today she tried her best! Today, we reviewed some vocabulary and grammar in class. We also practiced some role playing and conversations. For homework, she will do some grammar exercises, and she will practice on duolingo.
