Sam and I began reading the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. We discussed some study sheets to give our reading a purpose. Sam needs to pay attention to the specific characteristics of the travelers. We need to discuss how to annotate a text so that Sam can do that as we continue to read. Sam seemed to enjoy the premise of the prologue and although we just began reading, I think that she will enjoy it.
Sam and I revised her vignette. We briefly discussed her independent reading novel. We talked about reading difficult texts to prepare her for college. We discussed Beowulf that she read last year. We then briefly talked about the Middle Ages. Then I introduced the Prologue to the Canterbury Tales. Sam is very receptive to the literature.
A breakdown of physics was given. The development of modern physics was given with an introduction and brief overview of the major types of subfields of physics and the important differences and various concepts involved. We discussed modern science and some interesting experimental findings.
Sam and I revised her working vignette. We talked about the rhythm of the lines and where to end one and begin another. Sam enjoyed the writing assignment and took direction well. She knew exactly how to revise for effect. We then talked about THE ABSOLUTE TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN. We discussed the three chapters that she read on her own. We decided together that she could read up to and including chapter 10. She likes the study guide questions because they provide a focus for her reading. I do not collect the study guide questions; they are to help Sam with understanding the novel. We ended the day by reviewing punctuation rules for co-ordinate conjunctions.
Assignment
Continue reading novel and revise and turn in final copy of Vignette.
We discussed energy, matter, and the role of consciousness in science. Because Sam was still not feeling well, I let her start watching a physics documentary that discussed the difference between classical and quantum physics and the implications. As homework, I assigned her a set of questions that could only be answered if she watched the documentary.
Assignment
7 Problems about a physics documentary I assigned for homework
We reviewed some of the material we covered previously; solving linear equations, and finding the slope and writing an equation for a line. We did some examples of solving for specific variables of longer and more complicated formulas to demonstrate how it is the same as solving for an equation with numbers. We ended with solving systems of equations.

Lesson Comments
Sam didn't feel well as she had a migraine and was on her monthly cycle and wanted to go home early. She decided to stay to work with me but it was difficult to get her to focus. I took her outside to do some of the math problems to give her a little bit of a break from being cramped up in her room and that seemed to help her feel better.
Samantha did a good job today! We reviewed some vocabulary learned in class at the moment. We also did a lot of role play about introductions and new vocabulary. We talked about some cultural points about Spanish speaking countries. Also we talked about Latinos in Miami. For homework, she will practice on duolingo and she will do some exercises in her book.
We completed the material covered in the first chapter of the text that outlined forms of government, and its functions. Samantha had a few questions on the homework study sheet which we addressed. Overall, her homework was complete and accurate. We then discussed early political influences on the American colonies including self -rule, Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights. In class, Samantha is very cooperative, makes interesting comments ,and and keeps good ,clear notes. We began to discuss Enlightenment thinkers, including Locke. For homework, I assigned reading from the textbook pages 44,45, and 54-58, and answering portions of a study quiz on the reading.
We reviewed Samantha's homework assigned from the study guide. Sam correctly identified the types of services governments provide and displayed an understanding of the principle of federalism. I introduced the concepts of rule of law, limited government, representative government and fair trial. I will go over these terms again tomorrow. We are completing chapter 1 of the text material by using the abbreviated study guide. I showed Samantha the format of the text and how to use the headings and subheadings as an outline for comprehension. For homework, I assigned reading pages 16 and 17 of the guide and answering questions 9- 12, and 1 & 2 on page 17. We will then start the text at chapter 2.
Factoring quadratic expressions and equations and working with complex numbers
Lesson Outline
I continued to review factoring of quadratic expressions with Samantha. We then briefly looked over solving quadratic equations and decided that she is fully versed in that topic as well. I next started to teach her complex numbers and she said she needed to work on that because she didn't feel that she fully understood the topic. There was no assignment.

Samantha is a very bright and able algebra 2 student and only needs a small amount of review of topics she has been over before. We are progressing rapidly through most topics she has studied.
