During the first part of the session, I worked with Glen on his reading skills and strategies. We read a book (of his choice) on his instructional reading level. I was able to prompt him with strategies to use when decoding unknown words (multi-syllabic). The next part of the session was spent on editing his writing assignment/comic strip.

Glen and I read Desert Like together. I modeled my thinking throughout the text to deepen his understanding of the text. I also asked him guided comprehension questions. Then, Glen summarized what he read. We worked on some grammar: punctuation, capitalization, and spelling. We focused on writing an outline prior to writing to help organize his thinking.

Glen comes with a great deal of background knowledge and vocabulary. He monitors for accuracy while reading and self-corrects. HE answers comprehension questions within and beyond the text well. His next steps are understanding "About the Text". He needs to work on Spelling specifically vowel patterns and multi-syllabic words.
