Initial get to know Christopher session
-Conversational sample-
Initially introduced himself and asked a question after hearing ‘how are you’ from clinician.
Held eye contact but fleeting, discussed how much he dislikes eye contact.
Did not initiate any conversational questions independently.
Limited range of conversational topics noted- comics, movies, video games, you tube.
Lisp on /s/ in almost all word positions.
Awaited Chris' arrival at the scheduled meeting time this morning, unfortunately he did not arrive. Elise initiated communication with mom during the session time window and shared that Chris was not attending school today.
Chris was observably tired this morning, however he was eager to share the "list" of new plush toys
that he was intending on purchasing with the birthday money that he received. This offered a wonderful opportunity to further discuss his birthday. Conversational expansion was facilitated through use of direct question predominantly this session. Reciprocal exchange was supported with familiar cues as the dominant response was acknowledgement of clinician comment via affirmation ("yeah," "uh-huh.") Subsequent contingent responses were facilitated via use of carrier phrases. Topic shifting was strong this session, and rapid arousal shifts were noted as well. Recall, and verbal description of familiar events regarding this past weekend's birthday celebration were supported with scaffolding, binary choice presentation and verbal prompts in order to best support use of cohesive ties, temporal links and vocabulary expansion.
Richard worked on articulation and intelligibility during today's session. He was given an initial, medial and final TH activity and asked to come up with sentences for each individual word. He was very focused and intentional when making his TH sound.
Initial TH sentences: 9/10
Medial TH sentences: 6/10
Final TH sentences: 9/10
These trials were without cues.
He continues to have the most difficulty with TH in words with an F. Tablecloth was a challenging word today.
Richard working on story and reading comprehension today. He worked on main ideas and predicting outcomes.
1st grade comprehension: 100% accuracy
2nd grade comprehension: 0/4, 4/5, and 4/5
He did an excellent job trying to recall main ideas in addition to predicting outcomes from stories he heard and attempted to read.
Richard worked on TH at the conversational level today. In conversation, multiple reminders were used to help encourage correct production. A TH was placed on his bulletin board as a cue. Worked on has/have in short sentences while looking at action verb cards. Multi syllabic words with 90% accuracy-
Words with TH and F are the most challenging.
Chris rapidly initiated conversation this morning as he shared that he was happy to meet today, having missed last week's sessions due to the holiday, and then the subsequent storm closure.
He was excited to share that he "is turning 12 on Friday," and that his Dad had ordered many of the new plush toys that he had been wanting for quite some time. He happily itemized his list, shared expected arrival dates of each and elaborated on the details regarding each one and the ideas that he had for their use in his new videos. Allowance for more lengthy cycles of reciprocity was noted. Pause time and awareness of speaker- speaker overlap was supported with use of familiar cues. Topic transition was characterized by use of familiar "transition phrases" 2/8 opportunities. Chris was able to identify members within a semantic class, provide expanded similarities between the items given carrier phrases with 64% accuracy. Instances of familiar, rapid topic shift was noted as an attempt to avoid the task as increased linguistic demand was evident throughout the aforementioned activity. Familiar cross pattern movement activities adapted from the Brain Gym methodologies were encouraged to best support attention and task completion. It is significant to note that participation was subsequently variable, as Chris shared that "this isn't hard, I just gotta tell you something." Comprehensive session this morning.
Richard had a great session focusing on articulation. Initially he focused on TH in the initial, medial and final position of words. In single words and sentences he was at almost 100% accuracy. However, in conversation, he was closer to 80%. Medial TH seems to be the most difficult. L blends were at 90% today.
Richard had a great session today. Listening comprehension for main idea practice with 80% accuracy. Listening comprehension for predicting outcomes with 90% accuracy. He did an excellent job repeating and retelling important information to himself to recall for later questions. Overall he did an excellent job with memory strategies today.
