Richard was greeted as he finished with his previous teacher. He was happy throughout the session. It has been a bit since I have seen him last due to sickness and absence last week. He reported he is feeling better. We covered the calendar & change/month concept. Richard's language and overall expression today was more unorganized than the last few sessions. Richard required more verbal prompting to organize and use word finding techniques. We did a lot of exercises targeting language skills such as regular and irregular past tense and using present progressive verbs appropriately. Later in the session, Richard began to demonstrate increased self awareness. We again targeted /th/ in the initial position of the word at the sentence level, achieving ~60% accuracy. We targeted some social and pragmatic situational skills, that seem to be improving with both peers and elders. Continued collaboration with both ST and OT has been occurring and beneficial to Richard's progress.

Spencer was excited to discuss football scores from the weekend. He wanted to make sure he had his statistics correct so using Siri in our strong sportscaster voice, we carefully asked questions and then reported the sports news. Spencer enjoys this activity and sometimes gets a little silly. We discuss behaviors that are expected when discussing with an adult and teacher vs when with peers.

Tristan was energetic and happy to be outside for our Thursday afternoon session. We have now established a good routine of warm up with basketball and then a warm up of our sounds. He was more talkative today and we had some great conversation. He really gets a boost from positive feedback and often asks to hear it repeated.

Lesson Comments
As mentioned, Tristan has developed some repetitive behaviors to cope with some of his motor planning challenges. He often asks for repetition but not necessarily for comprehension but to satisfy some of his compulsive requests for repetition.

Spencer was not in the mood to be outside since it was shortly after lunch and recess. We used our times to practice our word list of strong /r/ sounds as a warm up and then go into sportscaster mode. He did request more hot chocolate and marshmallows but only after we reviewed our word list. He was motivated and stay focussed to get it done.

For a fun New Years activity to get Chris pumped up for our goals off 2022, we made a book titled "My Cup of Courage." In the book, we discussed the many things we do that are brave and how we don't give up when it is challenging. It was an excellent language activity with many describing words and qualities of courage like: patience, practice, encouragement, positive affirmations, love, and trying new things. We then made a cup of hot chocolate with colorful marshmallows representing all of our courage. Chris needed a little pep talk to cope with some of the stress of being back in school. He has been getting along well with peers at school.

Spencer was interested in the activity to start and then was tired of all the talking. SO we took a break and discussed sports scores and asked Siri questions about sports in our best sportscaster voice. Spencer enjoyed the hot chocolate so much that he requested it next session.

Basketball has become a way for us to connect, bond and regroup without a lot of talking. After Tristan feels his needs are heard and met, he gives a lot more of himself with his work.

Lesson Comments
Tristan is still struggling with what appears to be tardive dyskinesia due to medication. He is finding his way with it and has developed some compensatory strategies for dealing with it. He feels comfortable talking about it with me and knows he is safe to go at his own pace during our sessions.
