Prior to beginning lecture, Abby perused the DSM-IV and we discussed the multi-axis diagnosis, criteria for a diagnosis and the way in which a therapist uses the reference manual. The second half of the session we introduced Freud. Specifically, we discussed in detail the id, ego, and superego citing examples for each and how they fit into development.

Today Abby and I reviewed her graded project and discussed in detail the content and how the various observations related to theories and research methods. In preparation for a mid term quiz, we reviewed an outline covering the material that has been introduced from session one to date. I introduced topics for next week, provided Abby with an article to review and agreed on a long term project to continue with the observation of the five-year-old student. Abby will observe the student for one hour weekly and then complete a one page journal entry.
