Amira and I were scheduled for a Skype session during 2nd period this morning. I tried to reach Amira multiple times via IM and and Skype, but never received a response.
Amira and I had a chance to "see" one another, talk and catch up today! Technology and a clear Skype connection was challenging to establish for most of 3rd period. However, neither of us gave up and we persevered. It was great to see, speak and catch up with Amira. She cannot wait to return to FL and to school. Although she has no idea when she is returning to FL, she hopes it will be this weekend She is anxiously waiting to hear from her father. I let Amira know that we DO have school on Monday, 2/18 which is President's Day.
We worked through 16 exercises that asked Amira to evaluate expressions. She had to substitute numbers in place of variables in expressions, then simplify them. I worked on them with her. She had a good understanding of the process, and did well with the problems.

Lesson Comments
Amira did not answer Skype until halfway into the session.
Once again, multiple attempts were made to Skype with Amira during 4th period today, but unfortunately, she was unreachable. I look forward to Amira's return to school!
Today, we finished up the comparison and the contrast to all the 5 kingdoms of life. I made index cards for Amira to practice learning all of the vocabulary. After that we played a review game and I showed her how to make up a review game to play with me on Wednesday. Learning to make up questions with information is extremely important because then she not only has to come up with the right answer but formulate possible wrong answers, too.
