We did assessments for reading and writing to determine the level from which to base Amira's academic plan. She completed a couple of readings and multiple choice questions. I have a short writing sample. She began a notebook that contains a unit on Poetry that uses images in conjunction with basic terms and close reading exercises.

Skype session... We drew all 5 types of cells and talked about the parts that they have in common and parts that are different. There will be a test on Wednesday on this material.

I taught Amira different words for mathematical operations. We then looked at phrases and translated them into mathematical and algebraic expressions. I also taught Amira about how to evaluate expressions. I showed her how to replace the variable with parenthesis, and then insert the given values for the variables in place of the parenthesis. The order of operations should then be followed to simplify the expression. I assigned her 15 problems on a practice sheet that I emailed to her. She does a great job of paying attention!
