Connection Between Atlantis and the Bermuda Triangle?
Lesson Outline
Today we took a look at theories that connect the lost island of Atlantis to the Bermuda Triangle. Or....is there some other kind of underwater magnetic pull that causes ships to capsize or airplanes to crash in the Bermuda Triangle? When scientists roll back the Atlantic Ocean to reveal the ocean floor of the area beneath the Bermuda Triangle, there may some things present in the structure of the ocean floor that have caused cataclysmic events in this area of the Atlantic Ocean in the past.
Student developed a scripted or improvised character by articulating the character’s inner thoughts, objectives, and motivations in a monologue. Student engaged in theatre exercises that demonstrate the importance of appropriate energy, projection, and commitment on stage.
Student read Act 3 of The Crucible out loud, to draw conclusions on characters, motives, and plot. We discussed the difference between sensationalism and logic when making sound decisions and why logic and evidence are significant, as opposed to being swept away by sensationalism.
Today I had Amaria make chicken tacos. Amaria is still working on her knife and cutting skills but is coming along. We discussed the food pyramid and why its important to follow the guidelines. I taught her about food substitution and creativity in the kitchen.
The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle or Hurricane Alley, is a loosely-defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean, where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The triangle extends from south eastern FL south east to Puerto Rico and then north to Bermuda. Most reputable sources dismiss the idea that there is any mystery. The vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle is amongst the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships frequently crossing through it for ports in the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean islands. Cruise ships and pleasure craft regularly sail through the region, and commercial and private aircraft routinely fly over it. Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents may have been inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors. We began to watch a National Geographic documentary on the Bermuda Triangle. We will continue to view it during our second class today during last period.
Amira watched a portion of Act III of the play and then read some additional portions of Act III. I discussed the concept of dramatic tension and irony as the audience is aware during the entire play that the girls are either pretending to be bewitched or are suffering from mass hysteria while the characters in the play struggle to uncover the truth.
Student completed The Crucible, Act 2, and wrote responses to reading guide questions. Student viewed clips of the film and compared/contrasted the dramatic script to the film, identifying changes adapted for film.
In this session, we looked at quadratic functions using the calculator. We focused on the zeros and the vertex. We calculated the zeros and the max or min of the quadratic function
using the apps on the calculator. We ended the session determining the zeros and max or min using pencil and paper.
