This morning, Caleb played an academic game using the green iPad as a fun interactive introduction to the letter of the week, 'X.' He then worked on a letter hunt and was tasked with identifying the letter 'X' out of 40 different letters. He found all but one, but was able to find the last one when prompted. Next, Caleb practiced his writing as he worked on tracing the letter using a pencil grip to facilitate control. He was asked to write his name and did well writing the first two letters of his name, the 'C' and 'a' legibly, using his right hand. We also assembled a 24-piece puzzle and I explained and demonstrated an effective strategy to begin assembly. Caleb exuded excitement when he got the pieces to fit. We collaboratively assembled a full size outer space puzzle, and Caleb demonstrated excellent fine-motor coordination and perceptual skills as he put together the various pieces. We also worked in some simple number skills while working on this activity, and Caleb was able to count to twenty, with one omission (the number 16). Next, he was allowed to select a book and chose an interactive Disney book about Shrek. Caleb turned the pages and followed with his eyes as I read the book to him. He also pushed the character buttons as we read and remained engaged throughout the reading. Caleb predicted what would happen from the pictures and made logical conjectures. When we went outside, we met Sadee and Caleb enjoyed playing on the playground equipment. We used chalk to write our name, practice the letter 'X,' draw pictures and blend colors. Caleb enjoyed this activity and did not hesitate to request help if needed. We ended our time together reading a book about animals, and Caleb identified the animals from their pictures. We enjoyed a fun and productive morning together - and Caleb asked to stay at school all day, which made me very happy!

I am happy to report that Caleb asked to stay all day - and Debbi mentioned that she never heard him talk so much! I take both of these as a high compliment!
