This morning we began with spelling practice. Sadee wrote her words two times each and we worked together to generate a question and a sentence. The remainder of our ELA activities focused on contractions using “s”. We matched contractions with the words, broke apart contractions, identified the correct contraction for the sentence, and found contractions within a passage. Additionally, Sadee wrote 6 sentences using contractions, with an adjective, too! Throughout our work we discussed the two words that make the contractions and identified the letter removed and replaced by the apostrophe. We also discussed plurals vs. contractions. vs. possessives. Math: We worked through Saxon lesson 106 today which focused on things that take one minute, one second, and one hour as well as time to the minute. We watched a Brain Pop Jr. learning video about telling time to the minute, stopping the video to discuss and practice the examples. We then worked through her Guided Class Practice and Homework activities, which tasked her with multiplication (x10) word problems, time to the minute, drawing lines of symmetry and marking ½, completing a chart (counting by 4s and 2s), as well as various multiplication, addition, and subtraction problems. Lastly, we completed her class fact practice (106A) focusing on -9 and -8. Bible: Sadee practiced her memory verse, Matthew 6:26. We discussed the meaning behind the verse in that Jesus is telling his followers not be anxious about food, but to rely on God as the birds, who are far less than people, are fully provided for. Science: We enjoyed video on The Science of Spring from Sci-Show Kids in which they discussed subjects like why it rains, birds looking for mates, how plants grow, and all the amazing bugs you can find in the spring!

We read through the words and discussed proper pronunciation and some tricks for spelling. In an effort to shorten Morgan’s day per the family’s request, I covered her history class. I have edited the time on this session. I was technically with Morgan for 120 minutes, but that will put her over for the day (with paying Pam). I'm capturing the other 30 minutes in my time I would have been with Sadee.

ELA: Today we began our session with Sadee’s new spelling words for the week. We read the words and she wrote each word one time. She then wrote 5 questions using the first five words of the list (are, your, where, there, and from). We also worked to put all of her words in alphabetical order and complete a word search. For language and grammar, we reviewed contractions with a Brain Pop Jr. learning video. Sadee did a great job, scoring a 100% on the easy quiz. We also worked with syllables from her new reading study, The Little Red Hen. We identified words that have one, two, or three syllables from the word bank. Additionally, we read chapters 5 & 6 in The Magic Treehouse book, The Knight at Dawn. As we read, we discussed how the characters were feeling and about using context clues to help with tricky words. After reading each, we discussed follow-up comprehension questions. Math: Lesson 105 was the assignment for today. We looked at how you can add 2 odd numbers as well as 2 even numbers and both will yield an even number sum. We practiced with several examples of each. We worked with sharing items equally between two people, the clock (analog and digital), rounding to the nearest 10, measuring in cm and finding perimeter, and finally, two-digit by two-digit addition and subtraction requiring regrouping and borrowing. We are working on asking the question, “Can I subtract (the bottom number) from the top number?” to help her remember when she needs to borrow. Bible: Sadee was introduced to her new memory verse, Matthew 6:26. We also linked in a grammar activity by finding nouns and verbs in the verse. Science: Today is the first day of spring! We watched an information video about called “Learn about Spring”. This used fun puppetry to show signs of spring, discuss the weather in spring, and explained “in like a lion and out like a lamb”. We expanded the material with the Brain Pop Jr. learning video about spring. Finally, we worked through a word search of “spring” words.

Math: Today we completed lesson 103. The instructional portion of the lesson focused on multiplication x 1 and x 100. We also completed lesson 104, which focused on perimeter. Her Guided Class Practice / Homework textbook pages tasked her with measurement (in centimeters), addition word problems, drawing pictures to represent 3-digit numbers and writing in expanded form, finding the number from a written form presentation, identifying solid shapes, counting money, estimating length, multiplication, and mixed addition and subtraction. Lesson 104 included finding the perimeter of triangles as well as -7 and -8 fact practice. We worked through various number pattern activities, as well. Bible: Sadee scored a 100% on her Bible recitation! ELA: We began with a spelling assessment in which she scored a 100% on the words and her dictation sentences. We wrapped up our study of Bread and Jam for Frances with a comprehension activity in which Sadee filled in the blanks and wrote responses in complete sentences. To conclude her science study of nutrition, Sadee did a fantastic job on her assessment and also wrote a fun journal entry with the prompt, “Thank you, God for food!”. She wrote 15 food items in alphabetical order with only one error.

Religion – We learned all about St. Paul. He was a Jew and a Roman citizen. He studied under a famous rabbi and became an expert in the law. He worked with Jewish authorities and persecuted people that confessed Jesus Christ of Nazareth was the Messiah until he encountered the risen Christ on the road to Damascus and was converted to Christianity himself. Though he was not a disciple of Jesus, he is one of the greatest writers and teachers of God’s Word in the history of Christianity.
