TEAMS: One Strange Rock: Survival. -
Rory and I watched the end of the of ‘One Strange Rock’ episode two: Survival. This program describes Earth as the Great Killer. Without the cycle of death and sacrifice, from cellular to planetary, life would not be here. From the deaths of stars to planetary scale mass extinctions and the sacrifice of individuals for a greater genetic good, this is the story of how life evolved hand in hand with death. Death drives evolution. It's hardwired; from our cells to our landscapes, our colorful living planet is only possible thanks to it. Death leads to opportunity and biodiversity, which ironically ensures life is never wiped out. It's not enough for our planet to be habitable; it also has to be lethal.
Rory and I completed in detail his graphic organizer and the final project for this novel. We described each character in detail. We described each character physically and emotionally. We used in text citation to support our descriptions. We properly cited using MLA. We also, for each character, explained the author's purpose for writing each character into the novel. Rory did a good job.
Rory and I began a new novel today. He said that he had a headache and didn't want to work on his graphic organizer for the previous novel. So we will complete that another day. Today we read BRONX MASQUERADE. It is short selections from each student in an English class. Each student submits original poetry for open mic Fridays. Rory will write an original poem as his final project for this novel based on the examples throughout the novel. We read and discussed the first chapters of the book.
Rory and I were to continue creating his graphic organizer for his power point.

Lesson Comments
I tried to contact Rory, and the computer kept saying unavailable. We texted back and forth almost the whole time. I don't know why he couldn't receive my calls. We definitely experienced technical difficult. We had Marcus, Michelle and Nicole trying to help us.
Rory and I worked on his PowerPoint presentation. We are going through the 7 major sections of the novel. We are describing the characters, stating the plot and explaining the author's purpose for each section. We are also including textual evidence to support his analysis.
