Poetry, SAILING AROUND THE ROOM by Billy Collins and Sadlier Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
GT shared two of his favorite poems from SAILING AROUND THE ROOM by Billy Collins complete with analysis. We dissected the poems for imagery and poetic devices. We also researched commentary and analysis of the poems using the computer. I then presented "Duce Et Decorum Est" by Wilfred Owen. GT and I analyzed the poem. I specifically discussed the gruesome and vivd imagery used by the poet. We then began another section in GT's vocabulary book. We completed some of the application activities. He will finish the section for homework.
GT and I did a quick review of the topics we learned yesterday and did another example of maximizing production with the PPC. We also got into a discussion about the current status of the stock market, oil prices/demand, and the presidential election.
GT and I started working through Chapter 1 in the textbook that covered basic concepts of Economics (ex. scarcity, factors of production, and the production possibilities curve). My goal is to cover the high level topics then get a little deeper into supply and demand next.
We watched a "Crash Course in Economics" YouTube video that delivered an introduction to what economics IS vs what it IS NOT. He completed an activity, and we talked about the concepts the video introduced.

Lesson Comments
We didn't get to much today because his parent-teacher conference took up about 45min of his class time :)
It was great to meet his parents and get another perspective about his personality, personal desires, and (perceived) work ethic. When I went back to GT after, I expressed how I believe we could utilize this class to really help him explore some life decisions he's facing right now in terms of career path, and he seemed open to it...
