Substitute session for Dr. Barbara. After a brief introduction, as GT and I have not met yet, we began to learn about meiosis in comparison to mitosis. We referenced the biology textbook and then also viewed a short educational film online to review the process of meiosis. GT and I briefly discussed the difference between the two processes.

Lesson Comments
First lesson with GT and also my first skype session. I think it went well. He is very bright and interested in learning and he had insightful questions.
GT shared his double journal entry he had written for homework. We discussed the book thus far. We then continued our study of the novel by taking turns reading and annotating the text. GT chose another piece of textual evidence from the chapter that we had completed. He will write his analysis of the text for homework.
Since this was our first in-class lesson since the winter break, we spent considerable time on current events. The impeachment proceedings and the conflict with Iran dominated our discussion. GT is very well-informed and offers interesting insights. We will begin Chapter 13 next class.
In this activity, GT focused on two concepts. The first thing we worked on was the stats function on the graphing calculator. Gt learned how to enter data and then how to display the data graphically. After the data was displayed GT would decide which equation of best fit would be most practical. This equation would then be used to make predictions in the future. In the second half of the lesson GT continued his review of trigonometry.
GT had a test of Trigonometry functions to work on today. He had to find inverse functions and work out trig indentities. I showed him a few tricks to figure out the answer if he was in a situation where he needed to go through each multiple choice answer to find the correct one. He was able to use right triangle trig to find some of the answers to the inverse trig functions.
GT and I continued with our study of the novel. We continued reading and annotating for meaningful textual evidence for our essay. We stop periodically discuss the novel--focusing on the power struggle between two of the main characters. GT will write a response for his double journal entry for homework.
