In this session, GT was going to start a comprehensive review of trigonometry.

Class began with a brief review of relevant news stories. Next, we continued our review of the Federal court system. The power of the courts was reviewed. The concept of judicial activism was discussed. We then compared the U.S. court system with those in Canada and Europe.

Class began with a brief review and discussion of relevant news stories. Next, we focused on the development of the Federal Court system. The structure, jurisdiction, and operation of the Federal courts were introduced. Courts of appeals were compared to legislative courts.

The lesson began with a review and discussion of current news stories. Next, we focused on the concept of judicial review. The function and role of the U.S. Supreme Court was reviewed in depth. The history of the Supreme Court was also discussed and significant cases were reviewed.

Our class began with a brief review and discussion of current news events. We then concluded our review of Bureaucracy, Chapter 11. "Devolution" was discussed at some length. Next, The Judiciary -Chapter 12 was introduced. The constitutional basis for the third branch of our government was discussed and reviewed. GT turned in his recent written project on the U.S. Congress. He received a grade of A for his excellent work!

The lesson began with a review and discussion of current news stories. Next we completed our review of Chapter 10. The Federal Bureaucracy was introduced. Its function, structure, and size were reviewed in detail. The increase in size and scope of the Federal Bureaucracy was discussed in the context of the impact on all phases of life in the U.S. GT selected the topic of impeachment for his next term project.

Presidential popularity and the power to persuade were reviewed and compared for the period beginning in 1952 to today. The structure and organization of the Executive branch were reviewed in detail. GT was interested and involved throughout.

The class began with a review and discussion of current news stories. We spent considerable time on the topic of impeachment. Next, we compared the roles of prime minister and president. Divided and unified governments were reviewed. Powers of the U.S. President were reviewed in detail.

In this activity, GT determined trig ratios of all angles by using right triangles as reference and inverse trig functions.

The Microscope -
GT completed an exam on organelles and cell theory. After checking for errors, we discussed the results of the test. GT was given a diagram of a compound microscope, and was challenged to find and identify the parts and functions on a working machine. GT was challenged to cut out the letter ‘e’ from some text in a newspaper. He then mounted his ‘e’ on a slide, using a wet mount. He then used the microscope to examine the letter under different strengths of magnification. He investigated the different manners by which he could alter the light and exposure of his slide. GT determined the magnification of each view, by remembering to multiply the objective strength by the number on the eyepiece. He was also challenged to describe what he sees under the different objectives. We switched out eyepieces to observe how this changed the view. He then examined a slide of a tissue from a twig of a lemon tree. We found what organelles could be seen through the different objectives of the microscope. He also explored a variety of other prepared slides, (including different plant and animal cells, and parts of a mosquito) all in practice on how to use the binocular compound light microscope.
