GT shared his reflections on his quotes from Chapters three and four. He did a great job. We then continued our study of the novel. We take turns reading and discussing. We stop to define the sometimes difficult vocabulary that Golding employs.
LORD OF THE FLIES by Golding and SADLIER vocabulary
Lesson Outline
GT and I continued our study of the novel. We read and discussed. We also chose quotes together for his double journal entries. GT will write his reflections and interpretations of the quotes for homework. GT had completed several lessons in his vocabulary book. We reviewed the application activities. We discussed and completed some additional activities together. I answered some questions that GT had regarding some of the vocabulary.

Biology:
Organelles -
GT was challenged with a cell exploration activity. First step was to draw a bacteria cell in his notebook, and then find and label the parts using a cell biology website for assistance. Next GT was asked to describe the organelles he had added to his science notebook during our last class. For each organelle, he was asked to discover their size, and function, using his notes and the cell biology website as references. Continuing on with the project, GT compared and contrasted plant and animal cells, listing their differences and making a Venn- diagram. When the activity was complete, we discussed the functions of the organelles in more detail. Homework: prepare for a test in our next class.

Biology:
The Cell -
After a review of the organization of life, which we discussed during our last class, we concentrated on the basic building block of life. I reminded GT of the three base concepts of cell theory. I then instructed him to construct a diagram of an animal cell, in his science notebook, using construction paper organelles. We then labeled the diagram and made a list the functions of each organelle next to the diagram. GT then constructed a diagram of a plant cell, using the same construction paper organelles he used in the first diagram. As we identified each organelle, and listed their function, we discussed the differences between plant and animal cells. He also made notes on the root words that can be found in the names of the organelles, and what they mean, as a tool to connect name and function. Homework: be prepared for a test on cell theory, and the structures inside a cell, for a test next week.

Homework: be prepared for a test on cell theory, and the structures inside a cell, for a test next week.
GT and I discussed his double journal entry for this chapter. We then continued reading and studying the next two chapters of the novel. We discovered some very difficult vocabulary. We tried to define the words using context clues, but eventually had to use a dictionary. GT will write a double journal entry for the next chapter for homework.
In this activity, GT solved trigonometric equations for both finite and infinite solutions. This will lead him to solutions of trig equations with multiple angle solutions.
GT and I discussed his double journal entry that he had written for chapter one. We then took turns reading chapter two of the novel. We stopped to discuss difficult vocabulary and plot. We also discussed the traits of the different characters. GT will write his double journal entry and continue reading for homework.
