Lesson Outline
Kaitlin began a study of the book "The Great Gatsby," by F. Scott Fitzgerald. She explored vocabulary words and their definitions for chapter 1. She has to read and answer questions over Chapter 1 by Tuesday, September 16th. We delved into the short story "The Book of the Dead" by Edwidge Danticat, a Haitian author. This is a very thought-provoking story which has immense impact on the characters.
We will continue our study of quadrilaterals with the properties of a rhombus. We will use the properties to solve problems, Examples will be done in class and an assignment will be given.

We only connected for 5 minutes today, but we used the time to set the plans for next week.
The student began reading the passage “Dos personajes importantes.” After reading, the student discussed the passage with the teacher and answered five comprehension questions. Then, the student completed a worksheet on the verb ser.
Aiden reflected upon what he has read so far. Aiden created a comic strip/graphic novel of his favorite scene from the book. He will add details from the novel.

Today was the first session of the abbreviated Study Skills class (now 30 minutes long). Kaitlyn was very well focused and we reviewed her successful Quiz on Buddhism and Islam and then discussed causes and effects of the 911 terrorist attacks.
Today, Remington completed a fast facts check on adding 2 before we continued to work on using strategies with addition facts. We quickly reviewed the doubles facts, doubles plus one, adding zero, and counting on by 1, 2, or 3. Remington also practiced using his number line as a tool to help him find the sums of problems. Finally, he finished with a lesson check and spiral review questions.
This morning, Teddy began with a fast facts check on adding 2, and he traced the numbers 1 through 20 while focusing on proper number formation. Then, we worked on the concept of adding zero, and that adding zero to a number keeps the number's value the same. Teddy completed problems from the lesson and the spiral review questions.
