Math – Jonathan took a quiz on Lesson 29. Then he learned some new chess moves.
Science – Jonathan reviewed the part of the atmosphere that gives us air and weather. We talked about the gases that we call air that make up the atmosphere. Next we talked about gravity that holds Earth’s atmosphere close to the surface. We talked about how the atmosphere protects us from the sun’s rays and provides rain. He watched a Bill Nye video on the atmosphere.
Math – Jonathan practiced dividing shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths equally in different ways. Next he discovered that equal parts of a whole must be the same shape. Then he took a practice test on Lesson 29.
Science – Jonathan learned that the atmosphere reaches up to 60 miles from the Earth but the thickest part where the air is the densest is only about 7 miles. His book focused on the troposphere layer of the atmosphere where all weather occurs and how this is the only area that we see.

Math – Jonathan learned that there are different ways to partition circles and rectangles. Then he used fraction bars to compare halves, thirds, and fourths. He discovered that even though 2 is less than 3, halves are greater than thirds. Three is less than four though thirds are greater than fourths.
Science – Jonathan learned that gravity is what holds us to the ground and why things fall when we drop them. Then he learned that when the air is thinner at higher elevations there is less oxygen to breathe. Next we watched a video of what might happen if we lost gravity for 5 minutes.

Jonathan read an article on the Mid West Region. Jonathan brainstormed characteristics of the Mid West region. He described it to be flat, rich soil, containing lots of wheat and corn, famous landmarks, and cold, harsh winters with hot, harsh summers. He created a poster that contained symbols and phrases to describe his region.
