Lucas dedicated today’s session to finishing his colored pencil piece and he did it! He added final yellow highlights that brought the entire composition together beautifully. He was clearly proud of the outcome and rightfully so. We celebrated the accomplishment by framing the piece, marking a strong finish to a long-term project he’s worked hard on. Mr. Marcus and I are so incredibly proud of the work he's done this semester. It was so wonderful to see him be able to compare his creative growth on this project as compared to his previous colored pencil drawings. Lucas expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for the self-directed projects he plans to do over the summer. With his drive, he is sure to go far.
Lucas shared that he went go-karting over the weekend to celebrate his birthday and maintained his usual focus in the the class. He continued working on his colored pencil project. He remained respectful and productive.
Lucas seems a lot more confident on the court and in his shooting ability than he did even a few weeks ago. He's been working on his layups recently and the improvement is significant. After warming up and doing some practice shots, we played another few games of Double Bounce and had a great time. Lucas did really well recovering rebounds and made some great plays.

Lucas requested we do something special for our final cooking class of the year, and surf and turf seemed to fit the bill perfectly. He did an excellent job with this meal, drawing on many of the techniques and concepts we've learned throughout the year to pull it off. Everything was seasoned very well, but the chimichurri stood out as exceptional. Lucas has really developed his understanding of flavor and did an excellent job balancing the various components of this dish
Despite the heat, Lucas and I had a great basketball session. He did a great job drilling some technique and working on his shooting (sinking several 3 pointers) at the beginning of class. He then wanted to show me a game called Double Bounce. The game served as a great movement and rebound drill and was a lot of fun to play. We played a few rounds and then went to cool off with some water and played ping pong in the shade for the last 10 minutes of class.
Lucas did an excellent job with this meal. He demonstrated great understanding of flavor and texture while preparing the filling, and was able to explain many of the concepts and techniques at play. As we would be performing or setting up the next task I'd ask Lucas why he thought that this particular step was important and how it would effect the final product. He did a great job thinking through these questions and we had some great conversations about various concepts that we've covered throughout the school year.
Lucas expressed disbelief that he’s actually nearing the finish line on his colored pencil assignment. The piece is looking excellent. His hard work is clearly paying off. It is incredibly rewarding as a teacher to see how proud he is of the work that he is creating in class.
