In this activity, Anna completed the last section of the exam. This was the no calculator section B part B subjective part of the test representing 25% of the exam.
In this activity, Anna completed 5 questions of part one no calculator and all of part A part 2 calculator section. Anna does very well on both part A sections needing very little help or guidance.
Anna reviewed coursework from 5/10/21 and was introduced to a virtual circuits lab. The lab was shared via Google Docs. It covers and reinforces these learning goals: Part 1 - Comparing parallel and series circuits; Part 2 - A PhET simulation exploring circuit construction; Part 3 - Measuring current and voltage

I will share Anna's labwork once her lab report is complete. She has one more section to finish during our next session (5/17/21). Anna will begin the next unit, Electric Charge and Force, on 5/17/21, as well.
We covered Ohm's Law and Kirchhoff's junction and loop rules. We also reviewed series/parallel circuits and resistors. Anna scored an 89% on the DC Circuits unit assessment.

I asked Anna about labs and she wasn't sure if she did any with the previous instructor. I will design and incorporate a virtual lab on DC Circuits for our next session. I feel the largest component of the AP course is the application of science, and the lab piece really brings that to light.
I started the lesson with Anna by explaining the differences between series and parallel circuits and giving her the formulas for finding the total resistance in each type of circuit. I told her to view a video by Khan Academy on parallel circuits and then I showed her how to obtain the correct answers to several of the problems in her workbook. There was no assignment. This was my last class with Anna as I have limitations on my time that preclude my expanding my hours to meet her time requirements.

My recommendation for Anna based on the work she has done for me is that she receive an 'A'. However, I think my replacement teacher will be a better judge of her final grade in the course. I told her that I was turning over control to Mike because my time limitations would not allow me to give her the hours she needs.
I started the lesson instructing Anna to watch a short Khan Academy video about the placement of ammeters and voltmeters on a circuit with resistors. I followed the video by asking her questions from p. 253 concerning placements of ammeters and voltmeters. I then asked her questions from p.254 through p.256 about voltage changes in series circuits. There was no assignment.

Anna considers each question carefully and then answers softly. Often her answers are very insightful and show her firm grasp of the physics that is being studied.
In this activity, Anna was able to complete part A non calculator section of the exam. Again Anna needs very little help with the first two parts of the test. Part three subjective test is the most difficult for Anna.
